When you let your dog bark outside all day, it really is the same as flipping off all of your neighbors. Just walking down the street, waving both middle fingers at everyone’s window, that’s what you’re doing.

If I live to be an old woman, I’m going to wear striped stockings and heart-shaped sunglasses, and I’ll incorporate lime green into my wardrobe all the time. I’ll knit lots of hats and I’ll tell my secrets to spiders. I’ll write books for as long as I’m able. And when I’m no longer able, I’ll write short stories. I’ll write things on napkins...

I hope to be a published writer one day myself! (I should start writing something, but after 10 pages i usually delete it, or if i wrote it on a paper burn it, because i was to...

florencerabbitheartedgirl asked: Hi Lauren! I just read your blog on body image and I have to tell you that you rock! I have fought all my life with my weight. I'm not fat (not according to what the doctors say for my age and weight), but I am a little overweight. And my weight has always haunted me. My body image does not help my self-esteem but your blog did. A little. So thank you for sharing your opinion and help me a...

lareinadecorazones asked: I love "Wither", and I can't wait for "Fever"! I hope it's not strange that, at this point in the story, I actually really like Rhine better with Linden than Gabriel. I feel like I should have liked Gabriel for her more, but I couldn't shake Linden (just not in that house with Vaughn there). lol. And, the fact that "Changing" is your Linden song kind of...

rainbowsn0w asked: Hello! i just wanted to say I loved loved loved Wither! and as i was reading through your tumblr I noticed you said While We Have the Sun by Mirah was a perfect song for Rose, I was wondering if there were any other songs that you thought really related to other characters/Wither in general? :)

perchandperform asked: I asked you a few days back about an essay and how I should go about writing it. Your advice helped me /SO/ much! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was so stuck on trying to write an essay, that I forgot about writing what really mattered to me. I decided to just let it flow and write what I knew was right, and I'm really proud of my essay now! So thank you!

mynameistessagray asked: Hi! I just want to say that I HATED Rhine's decision to go with Gabriel. I mean, Linden gives her everything that he could give her and he LOVED her and they have a foundation on their relationship whereas in Gabriel's case, I think Rhine just liked the idea that she knows someone who needs freedom as badly as she needed it. I really hope it would be Rhine and Linden in the end, but I...

A lot of people ask me how I muster the discipline to write. Typically I make the decision that I am going to write, and before I settle down, I pour myself a nice cold drink, and while I’m at it, I refill the ice trays so my next drink can also be cold, then I apply some eyeliner and do something with my hair, because that deranged look in my eye when I catch my reflection in my blank...

smokeandbone13 asked: Hi can I just say you are a writing god I LOVE Wither so my question is are Rhines eyes important to the cure or did you just give them to her for just the heck of it? Is there a reason she has them that we will find out in Fever? or would that spoil to much of the story?

perchandperform asked: I'm wanting to attend a creative writing course in the summer, but you have to write an academic essay to get accepted. I've tried and tried to write on a bunch of topics, but I can't think of anything that motivates me and is interesting enough to gain their attention. Would you have any ideas about something to inspire me and enthrall the admissions people? Thanks!<33

Nobody can ever say for sure what the secret to life is. But here’s what I think: First, you have to picture yourself high up on a cloud, and you’re staring down at every person who has, is, or ever will exist. Bajillions of people just milling about below you—scientists, poets, button mashers, people obsessed with squirrel biology. Some great authority in the sky tells you...

Rejection letters and flowers and things...
There is a song that has been a sort of theme song for me in recent years. The song is called Flowers Bloom by Mandalay, and in it is the lyric, “Sometimes I look around the place I live, and wonder how I came to choose the things I did.” Later on, another lyric is, “Flowers bloom in desolate places.” My life has changed quite a bit in recent years, but those lines have always rung true for me....
